Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Men's Hockey team picked up their second point of the weekend on Saturday afternoon as they tied Sacred Heart for the second straight night. Mercyhurst fell in an 11 round shootout to the Pioneers.

How it Happened

Just like their first game with Sacred Heart the Lakers fell behind in the first period as the Pioneers scored 7:36 into the game.

Austin Heidemann leveled the game at one with under three minutes remaining in the opening period. Carson Briere and Josh McDougall picked up assists on the power play goal.

Sacred Heart took their lead back with just 37 seconds remaining in the first period. The Lakers went to the room down one as they generated just five shots in the opening frame.

Marko Reifenberger scored 9:53 into the middle frame with a beautiful shot that went bar-down into the net. McDougall picked up his second point of the night on the play.

The Lakers were even with the Pioneers after 40 minutes despite being outshot 28-15.

Sacred Heart scored just 1:37 into the third period to take their lead back.

Just over two minutes later, Rylee St. Onge scored to even the game at three. Pierce Crawford and Steven Ipri picked up assists as the Lakers looked to take the lead.

The final period was filled with sustained offensive zone time for each team but neither team could convert. For the second straight night the teams went into overtime.

Sacred Heart tallied four shots in overtime but could not beat Kyle McClellan who made a career high 41 saves on Saturday.

The shootout went 11 rounds as the Pioneers won 5-4 in the shootout. Briere, Noah Kane, Guergui Feduolov, and Garret Dahm scored in the shootout for Mercyhurst.
