Women's Water Polo Picks Up First Win of the Season

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team picked up its first win of the season, 13-12 over La Salle before falling 17-3 to No. 20 Wagner during day two of the Bucknell Invitational.
 
Mercyhurst 13, La Salle 12
Cassie Anderson led the way for Mercyhurst with four goals and one assist. Lindsey Mizrahi had three goals and one assist while Maddie Nye and Hanna Good had two goals and one assist each. Rachel Morris picked up one goal and one assist and Sara Marin had the other Laker goal. Jennifer Moshinsky tallied two assists while Rachel Byrnes and Sarah O'Keefe had one assist each.
 
In net, O'Keefe made 10 saves for the Lakers.
 
For La Salle, Sarah Defusco had five goals, Shanna Zuanich had three goals, Madison Martinez scored two goals and single goals were picked up by Sophie Appler and Casey Malone.
 
In net, Caitlin Valentine made five saves.
 
Mercyhurst pulled out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first before exteneding the lead to 10-5 through the second. La Salle outscored Mercyhurst 7-3 in the third and fourth but the Lakers held on for the 13-12 win.
 
La Salle outshot the Mercyhurst 34-25 while the Lakers went 3-for-9 on the power play and La Salle went 2-13. Mercyhurst also led with 15-11 exclusions.

Alexa Anderberg and Mason Feldstein both recorded one goal and one assist while Michaela Hershey had one goal for Mercyhurst.
 
In net, O'Keefe made 10 saves before Madison Hoefakker came in and made four saves for the Lakers.
 
For Wagner, Jacqui Sjogren had six goals, Francis Milo-Sidlo, Valeria Rojas and Kristen Saczynski each had two goals and Pip Nash, Sofia Diaz-Alvarez, Skye Nankervis, Malia Josephson and Savannah Henshaw had one goal apiece.
 
In net, Katherine Campbell made three saves before Mikaela Wells came in and made four saves.
 
Twentieth ranked Wagner took a 15-0 lead before Mercyhurst scored its first goal of the game.
 
The Lakers are back in action Feb 15-16, when they host the Laker Invitational.
