Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team fell 6-2 at fourth ranked Cornell during non-conference action on Saturday.
Alexa Vasko and
Emma Nuutinen scored while
Rachel Marmen,
Summer-Rae Dobson and
Sam Isbell had assists for Mercyhurst (11-6-2).
Kristin O'Neill scored twice while Grace Graham, Micah Zandee, Maddie Mills and Paige Lewis scored once for Cornell (12-1-1).
Cornell started off the scoring with O'Neill's first goal of the game at 14:55 of the first period.
Mercyhurst answered back with forty seconds left in the first period with a goal from Vasko. Dobson passed the puck over to Marmen who took a shot. Vasko deflected it in front of the net to tie it up at 1-1.
During the second period, O'Neill and Graham each scored one goal to give Cornell a 3-1 lead.
Later in the second period, Isbell passed the puck over to Nuutinen who sent a rocket from the blue line that found the back of the net. The power play tally brought the Lakers back with in one.
During the third period, Cornell scored three goals to eventually win 6-2.
Kennedy Blair made 21 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Lindsay Browning made 6 saves in net for Cornell.
The Lakers went 1-for-7 on the power play while the Big Red finished 1-for-6.
Both teams are back in action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
