BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's tennis team claimed its third consecutive PSAC championship, defeating Edinboro, 4-2, in the PSAC Tournament final on Saturday. Cormac McCooey was named the PSAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player.

With both the Mercyhurst men's and women's tennis teams claiming PSAC championships, Mercyhurst became only the second school in conference history to win both titles; Bloomsburg was the other (1996).

DOUBLES

• The Lakers won 2 of 3 doubles matches to gain a 1-0 match lead.
• Edinboro took the No. 3 match before MU rallied for the next two victories.
• McCooey and Unai Amilleta Gonzalez won, 6-3, at No. 1 singles over Julius Schulte and Kevin Mboko to pull the Lakers even in doubles.
• Arseniy Sklyarov and Ruairidh Fraser clinched the doubles point with their 6-4 victory against Tommy Hsu and Mateus Santos at No. 2.

SINGLES

• Edinboro snapped up the first two singles points to take a 2-1 lead in the match before Mercyhurst rallied for the next three points.
• McCooey won a first-set tiebreaker and went on to draw the Lakers even with his win at No. 1 singles over Mateus Santos, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
• Sklyarov's win at No. 3 singles put Mercyhurst in the lead, 3-2, as he earned a win against Kevin Mboko. Sklyarov had dropped the first set, 7-6 (7-4), before winning the second set, 6-4. Then, Mboko retired.
• Amilleta Gonzalez closed out the Laker championship win as he battled back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Plutat, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

NEXT UP

• The Lakers (17-3) will await word on their opponents for the NCAA Tournament during Tuesday's selection show.
