Box Score 1 BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- The 40th-ranked Mercyhurst men's tennis team won a pair of PSAC contests and clinched a spot in the conference tournament on Saturday, defeating Bloomsburg, 4-3, and then Kutztown, 5-2.

BLOOMSBURG MATCH

• Bloomsburg took a 1-0 match lead by winning 2 of 3 doubles contests. The Lakers' lone win came at No. 2 as Ruairidh Fraser and Arseniy Sklyarov teamed for a 7-5 win over Guille Carranza and Nagid Walle.
• The Lakers battled back for the victory with wins in 4 of 6 singles contests.
• Unai Amilleta Gonzalez drew the Lakers even at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-0, victory against Bernardo Abreu at No. 2 singles.
• Bloomsburg took a 2-1 lead before Sebastian Pardo pulled MU back into a tie with his win at No. 3 singles. He defeated Carranza, 6-4, 7-5.
• Sklyarov helped Mercyhurst gain a 3-2 edge with his win at No. 4 singles against Benjamin Tauber, 7-5, 6-2.
• After the Huskies evened the contest at 3-all, Felix Schmedding claimed a three-set win at No. 5 singles over Oliver Wiesemann, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

 

KUTZTOWN MATCH

• The Lakers swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.
• Schmedding and Claudius Zimmer were 6-0 winners at No. 3 pairs versus Logan Kemp and Eric Gibson.
• At No. 2 doubles, Fraser and Sklyarov clinched the MU doubles point with their 7-6 (7-5) victory against Josh Carl and Benjamin Kelly.
• Amilleta Gonzalez and Pardo won, 7-6 (7-5), against Nolan Perugini and Renato Santos at No. 1 doubles.
• Mercyhurst won 4 of 6 singles matches, beginning with Amilleta Gonzalez' 6-1, 6-0, triumph over Santos at No. 2.
• Roy Yaron pushed the MU lead to 3-0 with his win at No. 6 singles against Gibson, 6-0, 6-1.
• Sklyarov clinched the victory for the Lakers at No. 4 singles when he defeated Kelly, 6-1, 6-1.
• Schmedding tacked on another point for Mercyhurst at No. 5, winning against Kemp, 6-1, 6-2.

NEXT UP

• The Lakers (14-2, 4-0) will square off with Edinboro (14-4, 4-0) on Saturday, April 20. The match will take place at EU. The winner of that match will claim the PSAC regular-season championship and No. 1 seed in the PSAC Tournament.
