Box Score WILSON, N.C.—The Mercyhurst Baseball team won its third straight game in N.C. beating Ohio Dominican 10-1 Saturday while tying a division II 22 team strikeout record.
Alex O'Donnell led the Lakers with three hits and three RBI on the day. Jack Elliot and
Hunter Snyder followed with two each in the 10-1 win. The Lakers also set a record tying for fifth all-time in division II with 22 strikeouts in one game. This also potentially is a PSAC record pending word from the conference office. The pitchers who were involved in this historic strikeout number was
Matthew Minnick (11),
Tyler Garbee (8) and
Tyler Passmore (3).
In the first inning ODU was able to score its lone run of the game on a past ball. The Lakers responded to the unearned run with an O'Donnell single scoring Jack Elliot after his double to center. O'Donnell would score off a bases loaded walk by Zilka. Looking into the second, three up, three down for Ohio Dominican (4-5) as Minnick earned his sixth strikeout only after two innings.
Mercyhurst (5-1) did most of the damage in the sixth inning of a DeRenzo single to center scoring Snyder. O'Donnell then earned another RBI off of a SAC fly scoring Mitchell. Matt Schneider came up big doubling to center field which would score Elliot and DeRenzo. By the end of the inning, MU tallied up five runs on three hits making the score 9-1. The Lakers earned its final run of the game off of another O'Donnell single scoring Mitchell. ODU couldn't get the sticks going only have three hits on the day compared to the Lakers 10.
Winning pitcher was
Tyler Garbee who earned his first of the year with four innings pitched, one hit allowed, eight strikeouts and zero earned runs.
Losing pitcher was Sendelbach (1-2) for ODU allowing three earned runs, three strikeouts and five hits in four innings pitched.
