Women's Ice Hockey to Play Syracuse in the CHA Semifinals

The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team is in Buffalo, N.Y., for the College Hockey America Playoffs on March. 6-8. The Lakers earned a first-round bye and will play Syracuse on March 7, at 7:30 p.m. All games of the CHA playoffs will be played at the Harbor Center.

Last Time Out

Mercyhurst is coming off of a weekend sweep of the Rochester Institute of Technology, where it won 4-0 and 2-1.

 

Sam Isbell, Maggie Knott, Sarah Hine, Summer-Rae Dobson, Michele Robillard, Rachel Marmen, Samantha Fieseler, Alexa Vasko and Liliane Perrault tallied points for Mercyhurst during the weekend series.

 

Kennedy Blair made 19 saves in the 4-0 shutout on Friday and Sarah McDonnell made 14 saves on Saturday.

 

Previous Matchup

The Lakers and Orange meet four times this season with each team earning a weekend sweep.

 

Back in October, the Lakers traveled to Syracuse and swept the weekend series winning 4-2 and 1-0.

Rachel Marmen, Liliane Perrault, Megan Korzack, Sam Isbell, Sarah Hine, Vilma Tanskanen, Emma Nuutinen, Dobson Sarah Nelles, Vasko and Knott had points for Mercyhurst.

 

Sarah McDonnell stopped a total of 48 shots in net during the weekend including a shutout on Saturday.

Jessica Digirolamo, Lauren Bellefontaine, Abby Moloughney and Brooke Avery recorded points for Syracuse.

Maddi Welch recorded 25 saves on Friday before Ady Cohen made 23 saves on Saturday.

In February, Syracuse came to the MIC and won 6-5 and 4-0.

 

Megan Korzack, K.K. Thiessen, Dobson, Nuutinen, Knott, Isbell, Robillard, Nelles and Tanskanen tallied points for Mercyhurst.

 

McDonnell made six saves in net while Blair made eight saves in a relief effort on Friday. Blair also made 16 saves on Saturday.

 

Emma Polaski, Allie Munroe, Shelby Calof, Allie Olnowich, Logan Hicks, Anonda Hoppner, Victoria Klimek, Kelli Roeswell, Savannah Rennie, Lauren Bellefontaine, Moloughney, Avery and DiGirolamo picked up points for the Orange.

 

Welch stopped 22 shots on Friday and Ady Cohen had the 21 save shutout on Saturday.

 

All Time Series

Mercyhurst leads the all-time series 40-8-3, including a 6-4-0 edge in the last ten contests.

 

Scouting Syracuse

The Orange finished the regular season with a 10-21-3, 9-8-2 record. They are coming off of a 5-1 win over Lindenwood in the Quarterfinal game.

 

Munroe is leading the Orange roster with 20 assists and 25 points. Polaski is next with 21 points and Avery has 20 points.

 

Welch has a 8-13-2 record, 3.15 goals against average and .874 save percentage. Cohen has a 3-6-1 record, 2.67 GAA and .882 save percentage. Allison Small has a 0-2-0 record, 6.75 GAA and .809 save percentage.

 

The Orange are ranked 18th in the nation on the power play going 17.3 percent and 31st on the penalty kill with 80.7 percent.

 

Munroe is ranked 11th in the nation with 0.71 points per game as a defenseman.

 

Laker Lineup

Mercyhurst ended the regular season with a 15-13-5, 12-6-2 record. They finished second overall in the CHA standings.

 

Nuutinen is leading the Laker roster with 15 goals and 27 points. Dobson is close behind with 22 and Knott is leading the team with 17 assists and has 21 points.

 

McDonnell has earned a 11-3-1 record with a 2.17 GAA and .907 save percentage. Blair has a 4-9-4 record, 2.93 GAA and .895 save percentage. Leah Klassen had a 0-1-0 record, 5.03 GAA and .875 save percentage.

 

Mercyhurst is ranked 17th in the nation on the penalty kill going 84.4 percent and ranked 27th on the power play with 14.6 percent.

 

National Rankings

Nuutinen is ranked 28th in the nation with 0.52 goals per game.

 

McDonnell is ranked eighth in the nation with a .767 winning percentage and ranked 21st in the nation with a 2.17 GAA.

 

Streaking

Hine, Dobson and Robillard are riding two-game point streaks. Hine has recorded two goals and two assists, Dobson has tallied two assists and Robillard has picked up one goal and two assists.

 

CHA Banquet Awards

Nuutinen was named to the CHA All-Conference First Team while Hine was named as the CHAs Best Defensive Forward.
