CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- The Mercyhurst women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to non-conference opponent on Friday. The match featured two regionally-ranked squads: MU is No. 3 in the Atlantic while Charleston is fourth.

The host Golden Eagles (11-2) took a 1-0 lead with wins in 2 of 3 doubles matches before taking 4 of 6 singles contests to secure their victory.

Mercyhurst's lone doubles win came on the No. 1 tier as Kayla Frost and Sangeeta Roopan claimed a 6-4 victory over Kristine Gegeshidze and Katie Swann.

The Lakers' two singles points were earned by Athina Tsagkaraki and Naomi Jahr at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Tsagkaraki defeated Silvana Slusarciuc, 6-4, 6-4, while Jahr bested Regina Lopez-Saucedo, 6-0, 6-1.

MU (7-5) will return to competition on Saturday with a contest at Fairmont State.
