ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst wrestling team earned a 30-12 victory over non-conference opponent Findlay on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
The Lakers (9-4) won 6 of 10 weight classes, recording three pins, one sudden victory and one decision in the process.
Alexis Soriano (133),
Logan Grass (165) and
Trevor Johnson (174) had the three Mercyhurst falls.
Aidan Burke (141) and
Trever Begin (197) also had wins on the mat.
Soriano put Mercyhurst in the lead with his pin in 2:23 over Mike Stewart before Burke extended the lead to 9-3 with his 7-5 sudden victory against Ryan Skonieczny.
The visitors of Findlay pulled even at 9-9. Then, Grass, ranked fifth at 165, and Johnson had back-to-back pins. Grass defeated Justin West in 2:02 and, then, Johnson defeated Mark Trifelos in 1:12 as the Lakers snagged a 21-9 advantage.
Begin recorded the Lakers' final win on the mat, taking a 5-0 decision over Keigan Yuhas.
Jacob Robb was awarded a forfeit win at heavyweight.
Prior to the match, the Lakers honored their seniors,
Adisa Branch,
Kevin Kinyua and
Alexander Forrest.
The Lakers will return to action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. PSAC match at cross-town rival Gannon.
