Women's Bowling Comes in Eighth at Columbia 300 Penguin Classic

YOUNGSTOWN, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's bowling team came in eighth place at the Columbia 300 Penguin Classic this weekend.
 
This weekend tournament marked the first ever tournament for the Mercyhurst women's bowling team. During which the Lakers won their first ever match.
 
On Friday the Lakers played in five Baker Matches, ending with a total of 3,754. They went 722, 748, 675, 804 and 755 in order.
 
On Saturday they then played five Traditional Matches and ended with a 3,768. The Lakers went 782, 753, 699, 807 and 727 in order.
 
On Sunday, Mercyhurst took on Belmont Abbey in the first round and fell 733-674. The Lakers went on to face Youngstown State in the second round and lost 925-736. In the last round, the position round Mercyhurst took on Belmont Abbey again and dropped the match 839-720 to receive eighth place.
 
Mercyhurst totaled 9,652 pins on the weekend for a 148.5 game average. The Lakers went 1-12.
 
The Lakers are back in action on Oct. 19-20 when they head to Fredrick, MD for the Mount Shootout.
