WHEELING, W. Va. -- The 22nd-ranked Mercyhurst wrestling team fell to fourth-ranked Wheeling Jesuit, 22-14, in non-conference competition on Friday.
The Lakers claimed 4 of 10 individual matches in a meet that featured six nationally-ranked wrestlers among the 20 competitors.
Logan Grass, ranked sixth at 165, won his match over Bryce Harkness by technical fall, 16-0.
Jacob Ruggeri (125),
Kevin Kinyua (157) and
Trever Begin (197) picked up decisions for the Lakers
Ruggeri defeated Alex Godinez, 5-4; Kinyua bested Dylan Taylor, 4-3; and Begin won against Chase Logan, 5-0.
The 285-pound match included two ranked wrestlers as No. 2 Terrance Fanning, of WJU, decisioned the Lakers' eighth-ranked
Jacob Robb, 5-4.
MU (7-2) will return to action on Friday, Jan. 25, with a 7 p.m. PSAC home match against Kutztown.
