#8 Baseball Takes On Seton Hill This Weekend

ERIE, Pa. – The eighth-ranked baseball team takes on Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Division rival Seton Hill this weekend in two doubleheaders on April 6 and 7.
 
The Lakers (16-4) host Friday's doubleheader at Mercyhurst Baseball Field before completing the weekend in Greensburg, Pa. on Saturday. Both sets of games will begin at 1 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
Mercyhurst and Seton Hill played each other five times total last year, with the Lakers going 3-2 in those matchups. Seton Hill got the best of the Lakers in the PSAC Tournament Championship game to win its first PSAC Tournament title in program history.
 
The Griffins (9-13, 4-4) ranked eighth in this week's NCBWA Atlantic Region top ten poll. They split their latest series against Gannon 2-2 last weekend.
 
Seton Hill's players to watch: Sr. Tom McCarthy (22 starts, .333 BA, 2 HRs, 14 RBI), R-Jr. Colton Carney (19 starts, .288 BA, 14 runs, 10 SB)
 
Seton Hill's top pitchers: R-Sr. Don McWreath (6 app, 4 starts, 2-1 record, 2.61 ERA, 30.1 innings), Sr. Perry DellaValle (6 starts, 31.0 innings, 6.53 ERA, 44 K, 1-5 record)

LAKER OUTLOOK
Mercyhurst improved to 7-1 in PSAC play last weekend with a 3-1 record against IUP. Mercyhurst's pitching staff leads the nation in strikeouts per nine innings at 11.7 (198 K in 152 IP). Chris Vallimont leads the nation individually with an 18.3 K/9 ratio (59 K in 29 IP).
 
Daniel Elliott remains among the top hitters in the PSAC with 26 RBI and five home runs through 20 games.
 
MERCYHURST IN THE POLLS
Mercyhurst climbed one spot in the NCBWA poll this week while maintaining its position in the other two national polls. The Lakers also stayed atop of the NCBWA Atlantic Region poll, once again by unanimous vote.
