ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's water polo team picked up two wins to begin the season in the first day of the Laker Invitational held at the Prep-Villa Events Center Saturday.
The Lakers (2-0) took down Siena 12-9 in game one before defeating Saint Francis College Brooklyn 13-11 in their second game of the day.

Mercyhurst 12, Siena 9
The Lakers' opening three-point win over Siena was highlighted by big individual efforts from
Jennifer Moshinsky and
Chloe Kunst.
Moshinsky scored a team-high four goals on six shots while Kunst netted three goals on four shots in her first collegiate game. Moshinsky also had a team-high four steals.
Other Mercyhurst goal scorers included
Sarah Hershey (2),
Skyler Fontaine,
Mackenzie Ryburn and
Cristal Maldonado.
The Lakers held a 5-2 advantage at halftime and an 8-5 advantage after three quarters.
Sarah O'Keefe made 10 saves in goal while adding two steals. As a team, the Lakers shot 46.2 percent while holding Siena to 39.1 percent.
Mercyhurst 13, St. Francis (N.Y.) 11
The Lakers scored the final two goals in the fourth quarter to clinch their second victory of the day against St. Francis College Brooklyn.
Maddie Nye and Moshinsky scored the 12
th and 13
th goals of the game after St. Franics tied the game at 11 early in the fourth.
The Lakers trailed 10-7 with 3:29 remaining in the third period before scoring six of the next seven goals.
Moshinsky led the way with five goals on eight shots. Kunst (2),
Rachel Byrnes (2), Maldonado (2), Nye, and
Isabella Morris also tallied scores.
Mercyhurst converted on six-of-16 power play chances while holding St. Francis to three-of-nine on its power-play tries. The Lakers shot 44.8 percent as a team while St. Francis shot 33.3 percent.
Mercyhurst continues play in its host tournament with games against La Salle (9:15 a.m.) and V.M.I. (1 p.m.)
