Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team suffered an 9-2 loss to eighth ranked Ohio State on Saturday.
Sarah Nelles and
Molly Blasen scored while
Michele Robillard,
Megan Korzack,
Rachel Marmen and
Maggie Knott had assists.
Ohio State scored two goal within 33 seconds to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Tatum Skaggs and Paetyn Levis scored the goals.
Two minutes and thirty-five seconds into the second period, Emma Maltais gave OSU a 3-0 lead.
At 14:02, Nelles recorded her first collegiate goal to get Mercyhurst on the board. Robillard and Korzack had helpers.
Later in the second period, Jacyn Reeves tallied a short-handed goal to give the Buckeyes a 4-1 lead.
During the third period, OSU and Mercyhurst traded three goals within 31 seconds. Charly Dahlquist scored to extend the Buckeyes' lead to 5-1.
Twelve seconds later, Blasen scored her first goal of the season to make it 5-2. Marmen and Knott picked up assists.
The Buckeyes then scored four goals to end it at 9-2. Dahlquist and Liz Scheper both had two goals.
The Lakers went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Buckeyes finished 0-for-1.
Kennedy Blair made 16 saves in net for Mercyhurst (8-9-2),
Sarah McDonnell made eight saves and
Leah Klassen made seven saves. Andrea Braendli made 23 saves for Ohio State (14-6-0).
The Lakers are back in action after Christmas break on Jan. 5-6 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center when they host Colgate. Puck drops at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Game tickets will be available 90 minutes before puck drop and may be purchased with case only at the door. They are $10 per adult and $5 for students/seniors. MU students get free admission.
