Football Has Seven Honored On All-PSAC Team

ERIE, Pa. -- A trio of Mercyhurst football players was selected to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division First Team while four others were honored on the Second Team, as announced by the league on Wednesday.

First Team honorees included punter Brendan Cole, linebacker Chris Peluso and defensive back Dante' Redwood. Redwood was also named to the Second Team as a return specialist. He was joined on the Second Team by linebacker Corbin Kessler, tight end Bryce Mostoller, running back Garrett Owens and linebacker Rocky Owens.

Redwood, a senior from North Ridgeville, Ohio, is now a two-time All-PSAC West First Team honoree as a defensive back. The cornerback was also recognized for his return ability on kickoffs with the Second Team nod.

With a team-leading 17 pass breakups and three interceptions, Redwood leads the PSAC in total passes defended (20) and passes defended per game (1.82). He is tied for fourth in NCAA Division II in passes defended per game. In the kickoff game, Redwood had 16 returns for 489 yards -- good enough for a 30.6 average. He had one touchdown return.

His longest punt was 74 yards. He put 16 kicks inside the opponents' 20-yard-line.

Mostoller, a senior from Somerset, Pa., is a two-time All-PSAC West honoree. He was named to the First Team last year. In 2018, Mostoller had 15 receptions for 102 yards. He averaged 6.8 yards per catch.

A junior from Harmony, Pa., Kessler is now a two-time All-PSAC West Second Team honoree. He ranked second on the team with 72 tackles and third with 6 1/2 tackles-for-loss. Kessler was also credited with five pass breakups. Within the PSAC, Kessler tied for 23rd in total tackles.

Garrett Owens, the younger of the two brothers from North East, Pa., was a redshirt-sophomore in 2018. He was Mercyhurst's leading rusher, carrying the ball 153 times for 995 yards -- a 6.5-yard average -- and seven touchdowns. Garrett Owens recorded had the most rushing yards by a Laker since 2013. He also made 23 receptions for 220 yards -- a 9.6 average -- and two TDs.

Within the PSAC, Garrett Owens was fourth in rushing yards per game (110.6), fourth in all-purpose yards per game (150.3), fifth in total rushing yards and eighth in total all-purpose yards (1,353).
