BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -- The Mercyhurst men's tennis team is tied with Edinboro, 4-4, after Saturday's action in the NCAA Atlantic Regional. The match will be finished on Sunday.

The Lakers jumped ahead, winning 2 of 3 doubles contests, before Edinboro took 3 of 5 decided singles points. The No. 5 singles match, between MU's Conor McCooey and Edinboro's Kevin Mboko, is unfinished.

Mboko and Daniel Fernandez got the Fighting Scots on the board first, taking an 8-4 decision over McCooey and Joaquin Aguilera, before Mercyhurst struck back for its two doubles wins.

Sebastian Pardo and Arseniy Sklyarov got Mercyhurst even at 1-1 with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles over Mauricio Santos and Alexander Anderson. Then, Nenad Terzic and Cormac McCooey had an 8-5 win at first doubles against Vitor Albanese and Mateus Santos.

Pardo and Cormac McCooey extended the Laker advantage to 4-1 with singles victories. Pardo defeated Mateus Santos, 6-1, 6-3, at fourth singles while Cormac McCooey bested Fernandez, 6-3, 6-2.

Then, EUP began to storm back with wins at Nos. 1, 6 and 3 singles.

At No. 1, Albanese outlasted Terzic, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Thomas McCoy took the sixth match over Skylarov in another three-set match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. Then, at third singles, Maurici Santos took yet another three-setter against Aguilera, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5.

Conor McCooey holds a 5-7, 7-5, 3-0 lead against Mboko in the fifth singles -- and deciding match. The teams will finish the match at 9 a.m. The winning team will meet host Bluefield State at 1 p.m.
