Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Mercyhurst baseball team lost its first game Friday versus Pitt-Johnstown but bounced back to win game two in convincing fashion. The Lakers (32-4) dropped game one 7-6 before storming back with a 12-0 shutout in game two.

Individual game recaps are below.

Game 1: Lakers 6, Mountain Cats 7
Despite another double-digit strikeout outing from starting pitcher Chris Vallimont, the Lakers lost on a walk-off single by UPJ's Dillon Boyer in bottom of the seventh to lose its first back-to-back games of the season.

Vallimont struck out ten batters in his five innings of work while allowing just four hits, two walks, and one earned run. After UPJ bounced out to an early 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the Lakers took the lead 2-1 in the top of the third after Colin Fantaskey scored on a double-play groundout and Drew Delsignore reached on an error to bring home Jimmy Latona.

The Lakers added to their lead with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by an RBI-double from Latona and a three-run home run by Chris Gonzalez to extend their lead to 6-1.

From there, UPJ responded with five runs off Lakers' relievers Jamie Lauria and Matthew Keating in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 6 before Boyer's walk-off single in the seventh.

Game 2: Lakers 12, Mountain Cats 0
Russell Lamovec stole the show with a five-hit shutout and the Lakers' offense erupted for 12 runs in a game two rout.

Lamovec struck out 13 batters and threw 97 pitches in his third shutout of the season. He also improved his record to 7-0 with the win.

An eight-run third inning by the Lakers' lineup put them ahead for good. Mercyhurst had four doubles and three singles in the inning. Of those seven hits, six drove in runs with five coming with two outs.

Mercyhurst added insurance in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Matthew Schneider went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and drew two walks. Daniel Elliott also enjoyed a three-hit game with two RBI and threw runs.

The Lakers take on the Mountain Cats in another doubleheader tomorrow at Mercyhurst beginning at 1 p.m.
