BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Mercyhurst men's tennis team suffered a 5-3 loss to West Virginia Wesleyan in non-conference action on Sunday, snapping the Lakers' four-match winning streak. The contest featured two regionally-ranked teams in the Atlantic: Mercyhurst is seventh in the Atlantic while WVW is third.
Through doubles competition the Lakers led 2-1 after winning 2 of 3 doubles matches before West Virginia Wesleyan won 4 of 5 singles matches.
In doubles action,
Nenad Terzic and
Cormac McCooey claimed their sixth straight pairs win, defeating Pierre-Olivier Bedar and Lukas Laipold, 8-4, in the No. 1 doubles match. Terzic and McCooey remain the top-ranked doubles team in the Atlantic Region.
Arseniy Sklyarov and
Sebastian Pardo earned the other Mercyhurst doubles point, winning 8-4 at No. 3 pairs against Ferran Berga and Nathan Sabate, who are rated ninth in the Atlantic.
Singles action included two different matches between regionally-ranked opponents.
Terzic (No. 3 Atlantic) earned Mercyhurst's lone singles point, defeating Sabate (No. 17 Atlantic) at first singles, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.
At third singles, WVW's Ramon Rodriguez (No. 10 Atlantic) defeated
Cormac McCooey (No. 15 Atlantic), 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-6).
