INSTITUTE, W. Va. -- The Mercyhurst men's tennis team swept West Virginia State, 9-0, in a non-conference contest on Sunday.
The Lakers, who are ranked third in the Atlantic Region, outpointed W.V. State, 24-2, in the doubles portion before enjoying a 70-16 advantage in singles.
Joaquin Aguilera and
Conor McCooey pulled out the Lakers' only 8-0 pairs victory, taking the No. 2 match against Caleb Starkey and Dylan Jalariya.
In the other doubles matches, Terzic and
Cormac McCooey won at the top tier, 8-1, over Kaleb Ball and Ethan Cross while
Logan Williams and
Miguel Lopez defeated Noah Fulks and Sean Matics at third pairs, 8-1.
In singles play, Lopez and
Conor McCooey blanked their respective opponents. Lopez won at No. 6 singles against Baylee VanKirk, 6-0, 6-0, and
Conor McCooey bested Cross at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Dusan Cerny competed in the day's closest match, winning a tiebreak against Fulks, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
Also, Terzic (No. 4 Atlantic) won at first singles, 6-1, 6-1, over Ball;
Cormac McCooey handled Starkey at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2; and Sebastian pardo won the third singles match over Jalariya, 6-1, 6-1.
