Women's Hockey: CHA Tournament Preview

The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team travels to Buffalo, N.Y. this week to take part in the College Hockey America (CHA) Tournament to be played at the HARBORCENTER. The winner of the tournament earns an automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
 
The Tournament Field
-Mercyhurst finished in third place in the CHA Standings to earn the third-seed for the tournament.
-Robert Morris clinched its first ever CHA regular-season title to earn the top-seed and a first-round bye.
-Syracuse ranked second in the final standings to clinch the second-seed and the remaining first-round bye.
-Penn State ranked fourth in the standings and will take on fifth-seed R.I.T. in the quarterfinals.
-Lindenwood ranked sixth in the field and will take on the Lakers in the first round.

Lakers Outlook
-Mercyhurst takes on Lindenwood in the first round on Thursday, March 2 at 4 p.m.
-The Lakers are the defending CHA Tournament Champions after winning a thrilling 4-3 championship game in overtime against Syracuse in 2016. Mercyhurst has won 11 CHA Tournament championships in program history.
-Mercyhurst enters the CHA Tournament with the conference's highest current win-streak at five games. The Lakers have also won seven of their last eight games.
-Brooke Hartwick finished the regular season with the most goals (16) and assists (16) for the Lakers.
-Goaltenders Jessica Convery and Sarah McDonnell created an effective platoon down the stretch with both goaltenders combining to go 5-1 with a 1.67 goals-against average and a .916 save-percentage in February.
-Sam Isbell finished the regular season with a bang, scoring two goals and two assists in the final two games of the season against R.I.T.
-Jillian Skinner was the most productive of the Lakers' blue-liners this season, scoring a career-high seven goals with two-game winners (both in February). She also led the Lakers in power-play points with 11 (3 goals, 8 assists).
 
Additional Tournament Information
-The weekend's festivities begin Wednesday evening with the CHA Awards Banquet at 7 p.m. The league's major award winners as well as the All-CHA First, Second, and Rookie Teams will be announced.
-Tickets can be purchased in advance through John Sinclair at the HARBORCENTER by calling 1-716-855-4560.
-Adult tickets will cost $10 with student tickets (with valid institutional ID) and youth tickets priced at $5 for each game.
-A broadcast for every tournament game will be available through Stretch Internet. Single-game passes can be purchased for $12 or a tournament pass can be purchased for $25.
-Live statistics will be available closer to game times.
