ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's tennis team suffered a 5-4 non-conference loss to West Liberty on Saturday at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.
The visiting Hilltoppers led early after winning 2 of 3 doubles matches before the opponents split six matches in singles competition.
The Lakers No. 1 pair of
Nenad Terzic and
Cormac McCooey teamed for Mercyhurst's lone doubles point, taking an 8-4 decision over Andy Ponder and Matt Tully.
Terzic and McCooey were also winners in singles play, as well. Terzic won his No. 1 singles tie against WLU's Baptiste Perrin,7-5, 6-4. At second singles, McCooey defeated Ponder, 6-4, 6-2.
Mercyhurst's only other singles win came from
Joaquin Aguilera, who won versus Roberto Cimorra, 7-6 (2), 6-2.
