Box Score GLENVILLE, W.V. – The Mercyhurst baseball lost its first game of the season 5-1 to Glenville State College on Sunday afternoon. It was the first nine-inning contest of the season for the Lakers (2-1).
 
Glenville St. got on the board first with a run in the second inning and followed that up with a three-run fourth inning that proved to be the last inning for Mercyhurst starting pitcher Chris Vallimont.
 
Vallimont threw four complete innings and gave up four hits and allowed four runs, but not all were earned. He also struck out five while walking three.
 
Mercyhurst had similar difficulties at the plate and had a tough time figuring out GVSC starting pitcher Tanner Helms. Helms got the win after giving up just a single run in seven innings. He walked four and struck out three.
 
The only Mercyhurst run scored came in the seventh inning when Drew Delsignore scored on a wild pitch. Marc DiLeo was the only Lakers with multiple hits, going two for four.
 
Drew Borowski threw four innings in relief for Mercyhurst and allowed three hits and one run.
 
The Lakers travel to Holly Springs, N.C. to take on Post University at a neutral site next weekend. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 25 and one more game on Sunday Feb. 26.
