Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst women's soccer team snapped its three-game losing skid with a 2-1 non-conference road win over Daemen College Tuesday afternoon.
The Lakers (3-6-3) remain unbeaten in non-conference games this season. They tied Ohio Valley 1-1 at home back on Sept. 9.
Both teams traded goals in the first half with
Maia Russo leading off the scoring in the 11
th minute. She scored on through ball passed to her from
Emilie Bock for her second goal of the season.
Daemen (6-5-1) responded five minutes later to tie the game on a Mercyhurst own goal that was caused by a cross deflecting off a Laker defender and in to the net.
Jinan Abdalah broke the tie with the go-ahead goal in the second half. She scored off a rebound originally shot by
Maya Fanazini in the 57
th minute to give the Lakers a lead they held for the rest of the game.
The Lakers did not have a corner kick for the entire game but they did manage 12 shots on target compared to the Wildcats' seven.
Mercyhurst returns home for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference battle with Lock Haven this Friday, Oct. 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
