TEANECK, N.J. — Mercyhurst (2-9-0) lost to FDU (5-2-3) with a final score of 4-1 on Thursday. The Lakers were limited to four shots while facing 34 from FDU, and their goalkeeper made 16 saves.
FDU applied pressure immediately, earning a corner in the opening minute and going in front 1-0 at 1:19. The Lakers put shots on frame through
Jenna Popowski at 4:23 and
Sydney Farrand at 12:13, while
Alyssa Alcorn made several early saves to keep the margin at one. FDU continued to generate chances through the middle of the half, but the Lakers held the score at 1-0 through a stretch from 14:55 to 25:47 that included multiple shots and corners. FDU added their second goal at 32:56, scoring again at 40:15 as FDU took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Lena Rudy put the Lakers on the board early in the second half, scoring at 46:53 to cut FDU's lead to 3-1. Rudy also scored in Mercyhurst's previous game against Chicago St. FDU answered with sustained pressure, forcing Alcorn into saves on shots at 50:31, 51:06 and 53:42, then continuing the stretch with more attempts and a corner while the Lakers kept the score at 3-1 through 62:52. Alcorn made additional saves in the 67th and 69th minutes, but FDU broke through at 71:55, scoring off an assist to make it 4-1. FDU generated the later chances, including another save by Alcorn at 77:53 and a corner in the 87th minute, and the half ended with FDU finishing off a 4-1 result.
Alcorn recorded 16 saves over 90 minutes, making nine in the first half and seven in the second. Rudy scored the Lakers' goal, as she scored in back-to-back games.
