BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Mercyhurst men's tennis player
Joaquin Aguilera advanced to the quarterfinals in singles competition and teamed with
Nenad Terzic to reach the finals of the doubles competition on day one of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Singles/Doubles Championships, which began Friday at Bloomsburg.
In singles play, Aguilera defeated Lucas von der Heyde of West Chester, 6-2, 6-4, in the Round of 16. Two of his Laker teammates, however, dropped their Round of 16 matchups:
Arseniy Sklyarov fell to Mateus Santos of Edinboro, 7-6, 6-2; and Terzic lost to Bloomsburg's Pablo Herrero, 7-5, 6-3.
During doubles competition, a pair of Mercyhurst duos advanced into a semifinal matchup against one another. Aguilera and Terzic defeated Millersville's Noah Ginder and Christian Boyer, 8-0, and Sklyarov and
Sebastian Pardo edged Kutztown's Gabe Souza and Nikolay Kodinov, 9-8 (7-0).
Then, in an All-Mercyhurst doubles semifinal, Aguilera and Terzic defeated Pardo and Sklyarov, 8-2.
The tournament will continue on Saturday before finishing on Sunday.
