MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst University men's tennis team opened the 2015-16 dual season on Wednesday evening with a 7-2 victory at Allegheny College. The Lakers start the season with a 1-0 record while the Gators dropped to 1-3 overall.

Allegheny jumped in front early, winning two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles competition. Mercyhurst's only double win came at #2 where juniors Conor McCooey and Joaquin Aguilera defeated Allegheny's team of Jai Redkar and Zach Anderson, 8-5.

Mercyhurst dominated singles action, winning all six matches in straight sets to earn the team victory.

Aguilera had the easiest time, posting a 6-0, 6-2 win at #2 over Andreas Landgrebe. McCooey also had very little resistance in his match, earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Samarth Gopal at #4. Sophomore Nenad Terzic, junior Ross Molinaro IV, and seniors Travis Beck and Robert Rizea also earned singles wins.

Mercyhurst will next be in action when it hosts the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships at the Pennbriar Athletic Club. The tournament begins on Friday, September 25 and concludes on Sunday, September 27.
