#9/10 Women's Hockey Finally Returns To Action This Weekend Against Syracuse

ERIE, Pa. - After a layoff of more than a month, the #9/10 Mercyhurst University women's hockey team will return to action this Friday and Saturday, Janaury 16 and 17, when it hosts College Hockey America-rival Syracuse University at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Faceoffs are slated for 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Lakers (16-4-2, 7-3-0 CHA) have a three-point lead over the Orange (6-10-7, 4-2-3 CHA) in the conference standings with roughly five weeks left in the regular season. Mercyhurst has owned the all-time series, 28-1-2, but Syracuse snapped a 30-game winless streak against Mercyhurst with a 4-1 victory over the Lakers in their last meeting on November 8 in Syracuse.

Mercyhurst last played on December 12 and 13 when it suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of Penn State at the Pegula Ice Arena in State College. The Lakers dropped a 2-1 decision in game one before falling by a 5-3 count the following afternoon. The Lakers enter the weekend series having lost two straight for the first time since bowing to Cornell (6-4) and Robert Morris (3-1) at the Ice Center last January. The two-game sweep by a conference opponent was the first since Robert Morris won 3-1 and 2-1 decisions December 7 and 8 of 2012 in suburban Pittsburgh.
