COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team concluded their trip in Ohio at Ohio Dominican University where they were able to come out with win, 2-1.

In the first half, The Lakers had two early chances in the eighth minute when Dane Rimko's shot was blocked and gathered by freshman Miguel Navarro where he, then, put a shot off the post. That resulted in a Mercyhurst corner kick taken by Danny Deakin at the 9:04 mark, but the Lakers were not able to capitalize on the opportunities.

Mercyhurst continued to put pressure on Ohio Dominican goal keeper Just Alexander when Gregory John Andrews put a shot on net, but Alexander was able to make the save.

The Lakers would put one past Alexander in the 28th minute when redshirt sophomore Jack Watson received a pass from Deakin to beat the keeper for a 1-0 advantage. It was Watson's first goal on the season and Deakin's third assist.

Before the half ended, the Panthers were able to beat sophomore goal keeper Nicholas Smith, making his third straight start, in the 41st minute to tie the game at one.

A little over ten minutes into the second half, Watson toed a beautiful cross that found senior Fernando Martinez and he was able to put the pass into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead in the 57th minute. It was Martinez's second goal on the season and Watson's first assist.

In the 84th minute, a Deakin shot that was saved by Alexander apparently bounced into the air where Watson was able to put his head on the ball and in for the goal. It was his second of the game and on the season. The goal put the Panthers away for good, and the Lakers received their third straight victory.

Mercyhurst outshot Ohio Dominican 17-9. Smith was able to record three saves and picked up his third straight win on the year.

The victory put Mercyhurst's overall record at 4-1-0 and will have their first conference game Friday, September 19, at home versus West Chester. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
