#7 Wrestling Heads To #17 Ashland University On Wednesday Night

ASHLAND, Ohio - The seventh-ranked Mercyhurst University wrestling team will put its winning streak on the line as it travels to #17 Ashland University on Wednesday night. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. from Kates Gymnasium.

Mercyhurst is 8-7 lifetime against Ashland and has squared off against the Eagles at least once in every year dating back to the program's inception in 2001-02. After losing the first five duals in the all-time series, Mercyhurst is 8-2 in the last ten meetings between the two schools.

The Lakers enter the dual with a perfect 2-0 record this season, extending their program-record streak to 14 consecutive dual victories dating back to last season. Mercyhurst's last setback came at San Francisco State University on January 3, 2014 - the Lakers' only dual loss during the 2013-14 campaign. On the flip side, it will mark the first dual of the season for the Eagles.

The contest will feature seven nationally-ranked wrestlers - five for Mercyhurst and two for Ashland - according to the initial rankings that were released a few weeks ago. The Lakers will have redshirt sophomore Willie Bohince (6th at 125), redshirt senior Ryan Bohince (7th at 133), redshirt junior Jeremy Landowski (4th at 149), redshirt junior August Mizia (4th at 174), and sophomore Andrew Welton (8th at 285) compete on Wednesday, while the Eagles will counter with junior Michael Labry (2nd at 133) and sophomore Brent Fickel (6th at 149) as their nationally-ranked competitors.

The 133- and 149-pound matches should be the one to keep tabs on as both teams will feature nationally-ranked grapplers in those contests. Ryan Bohince will hook up with Labry at 133 while Landowski will square off with Fickel at 149. Last season, Landowski defeated Fickel by a 5-1 decision while Bohince and Labry did not square off.
