Men's Water Polo Looks for Fourth Straight CWPA Division II Title This Weekend

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team will compete for the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division II Championship Saturday, October 18. The Lakers will face Salem International and Gannon to determine this year's champion. The event will be played at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion at Gannon University. Mercyhurst will then play at Bucknell on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Mercyhurst will face Salem at 3 p.m. and take on Gannon at 7 p.m. GU and SIU will play at 11 a.m.
 
The Lakers are 8-8 this season, having won three of four outings in California last weekend. Alex Strong leads the team with 26 goals and 37 points. Joe Yamamoto has recorded a team-high 16 assists, while Dave Matulis has scored 22 goals. Jack Howe has added 17 goals and Samuel Lopez has 11 goals and 11 helpers on the year.
 
Gannon has a 2-5 mark this year, including four losses in California last weekend. Raz Yuval leads the Golden Knights with 13 goals, while Gilberto Millan has put up 10 scores. Yuval has dished out nine assists as well.
 
Salem International is 3-13 in 2014. Djordje Stavrevski paces the Tigers with 38 goals.
 
Mercyhurst has won three straight CWPA Division II Championships and six of the last seven.

Bucknell is 6-6 this season. It beat Navy, 12-8, at home October 4 in its last outing. Stefan Aleksic leads the Bison with 43 points (26 goals, 17 assists). Grant Curry has posted a team-high 27 goals.
