#1 Men's Lax to Host #9 Dowling, A-B This Weekend (Video)

ERIE, Pa.- The #1 Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team will host two games at Tullio Field this weekend. The Lakers face #9 Dowling (N.Y.) on Saturday, April 6, and then square off with Alderson-Broaddus in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) match on Sunday, April 7. Both contests are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts.

The match against Dowling will be a rematch from the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Golden Lions won, 7-6 in overtime, on their way to the NCAA Championship.
 
In 2013, Mercyhurst is 8-0. It has won its last 28 regular season games and its last 16 regular season home contests, dating back to the 2011 season. Brian Scheetz is the top scorer this year, with 16 goals and 16 assists. Brady Heseltine has scored a team-high 19 goals, while Deven Alves has dished out 12 assists. Michael Grace is giving up 6.24 goals per game (fifth in NCAA), stopping 61.5 percent of the shots he faces.
 
As a team, the Lakers are scoring 13.88 goals per game, fifth-best in Division II. They also allow 5.5 goals per outing, second-fewest in the nation. Mercyhurst has won 67.2 percent of their faceoff chances, good for second nationally.
 
Dowling is 5-2 this season, coming off a 15-6 win at Roberts Wesleyan March 27.  Matt Crough leads the team with 28 points. Tom Cleary has scored 20 goals, while Michael Brennan has eight goals and 12 helpers. Myles Harvey has started all seven games in net, allowing 7.14 goals per game.
 
Sunday is senior day for nine Lakers. James Chayka, Dan Cuddy, Kyle Lindsay, Peter Plaskey, Zac Reid, Walter Rodenhouse, Brent Rotz, Mark Saltrelli, and Scheetz will be recognized prior to the game.
 
Alderson-Broaddus has an 0-8 mark this season, including three ECAC losses. Thomas Moffat leads the Battlers with 13 goals. A-B started its lacrosse program in 2012.
