ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo team split two games Saturday, advancing to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Championship third-place match Sunday. The Lakers beat George Washington, 10-7, before falling to Bucknell, 8-6.
In the win over GW, Mercyhurst trailed, 1-0, after a quarter. The Colonials still led, 3-1, at the half. The Lakers broke out with five goals in the third period to take control and then tacked on four goals in the fourth frame to move on to the semifinals.
Luehmann scored four goals and had an assist.
Garret Schoeman scored once and dished out four assists.
Danilo Svorcan had two goals and
Isaac Ogloblin added a goal and an assist.
Matt Cote saved 13 shots.
Against Bucknell, the Lakers went ahead, 2-0, after a period. They led, 3-2, at halftime. The Bison answered with six second-half goals to win the contest, however.
Schoeman recorded a goal and three helpers. Luehmann and Svorcan totaled a goal and an assist apiece. Ogloblin and
Raul Ariza each scored once. Cote posted six saves in net.
The Lakers are 18-5 this season. They will now face Princeton in the third-place game on Sunday at 2:20 p.m.
