LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Mercyhurst University baseball team saw its winning streak extend to seven consecutive games in game one on Saturday afternoon after taking a 9-3 decision over Lock Haven. However, the win streak would come to an end in game two, as the Laker bats could muster just three hits in a 3-1 setback to the Bald Eagles. After the split, Mercyhurst is now 25-9 overall and 8-4 in PSAC West play. Meanwhile, Lock Haven moved to 11-21-1 overall and 6-10 in conference play.

Senior Brad Duffy and freshman Dan Altavilla combined to strike out 13 Lock Haven hitters in game one, while freshman Ryan Siegel and sophomore Colin Loughner each hit home runs en route to the 9-3 victory. It was Siegel's third round tripper of the season, while Loughner connected on his first homer of the year.

Both teams would score a pair of runs in their first at bats on Saturday. Siegel led off the game with a double and then would be driven home on an RBI single by senior Ethan Santora for a 1-0 Mercyhurst lead. Senior Matt Adamczyk would then plate senior Shane Latshaw, who reached on a walk, with an RBI double to give the Lakers a 2-0 advantage.

But, Lock Haven would come right back to tie the game in the bottom of the first off of Duffy. Ryan Henritzy and Cory Dorman had run-scoring singles for the Bald Eagles.

Mercyhurst would come right back with two more runs in the second to take a 4-2 lead. Loughner led off the inning with a single and then would score on the two-run blast by Siegel. But, the Bald Eagles would not go quietly, cutting the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the second on an RBI double by Jay Hartman.

Santora would lace an RBI single in the fourth inning to give Mercyhurst a 5-3 advantage. Then, in the fifth, freshman Kyle Haegrich reached on a single and Loughner would add the exclamation mark with a two-run homer, his first round tripper of the season, giving Mercyhurst a 7-3 advantage.

The Lakers would add a pair of runs in the sixth inning on a two-run triple by junior Andrew Fitzpatrick.

Duffy went five innings and allowed three runs and five hits. He walked four and struck out nine, improving his record to 4-0 on the season. Altavilla came on in relief and slammed the door, walking one and striking out four in two hitless innings.

Santora, Siegel, and Loughner each had two hits at the plate, as the Lakers racked up 11 hits in game one.

Game two was, however, a much different story, as the Lakers could get just three hits off of Lock Haven starter Colin Mills.

Mercyhurst would score its only run of game two in the first inning. Siegel led off the game with a single and would adavnce to third on a single by Latshaw. Santora would drive Siegel home with a sacrifice fly, giving Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead.

The Lakers would get their only other hit of the game in the second inning off the bat of Hagerich, as Mills would close out the game with five-and-one-third innings of hitless ball.

The Bald Eagles would take a 2-1 lead off of Mercyhurst starter, senior Zach Leitten, in the bottom of the second. Austin Botts would tie the game at 1-1 with an RBI single and then Josh Jones would add an RBI double later in the frame. Lock Haven would score again in the third on an RBI single by Jose Diaz.

Mercyhurst threatened in the fifth inning, but Siegel struck out with Hagerich standing on third base.

Leitten kept the Lakers in the game, scattering eight hits in five innings. He was charged with all three runs and he walked two while striking out five. Senior Samuel O'Neill pitched a 1-2-3 final inning, striking out one. Leitten dropped to 3-2 on the season.

Mills went the distance, walking three and striking out two.

Mercyhurst returns to action on Tuesday, April 10 for a non-conference, nine-inning game at Notre Dame College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
