Scheetz Ties Points Record in 10-3 Win for #1 Men's Lacrosse

ORANGEBURG, N.Y.- The #1 Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team won, 10-3, at Dominican Saturday. Brian Scheetz tied the school record for career points with 155 in the East Coast Conference (ECC) game. The Lakers clinched at least a share of the ECC title with the victory.
 
Scheetz needed two points to tie the record, held by Troy Ledbetter. With Mercyhurst up 2-0, Scheetz found Brady Heseltine for a score. In the second quarter, the visitors took a 7-0 lead. Heseltine assisted on a Scheetz goal to tie the record.
 
The Lakers quickly took care of business Saturday, as Jake McAndrew finished a James Chayka pass for a 1-0 edge with 12:35 left in the first quarter. Deven Alves followed with a goal later in the first. Heseltine scored with 2:29 to go and then added an unassisted goal with 66 seconds left in the opening period.
 
Alves opened the second frame with a score at the 12:18 mark. Joe Shepherd then scored his first two goals of the season in a 1:46 span to give the Lakers a 7-0 advantage.
 
In the second half, Ian Brooks scored for a 9-0 lead. Dominican finally got on the board with two straight goals in the third. Chris Dale found the back of the net late in the quarter.
 
Mercyhurst outshot DC, 35-22, and grabbed 30 groundballs to 26 for the Chargers. Scheetz had a goal and an assist, while Heseltine had two goals and a helper. Alves added two goals. Michael Grace made nine saves in three periods of action.
 
The Lakers (12-0, 9-0 ECC) host Molloy on senior day at Tullio Field Saturday, May 5. Face-off for the ECC match is slated for 1 p.m.
