#1 Men's Lacrosse Faces #3 Dowling in ECC Showdown (Video)

ERIE, Pa.- The #1 Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team travels to #3 Dowling for an East Coast Conference (ECC) showdown Saturday, March 24. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

The Lakers are 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the ECC. They defeated Seton Hill, 19-5, in their last outing on March 18. Senior Kyle Kallay scored five goals, earning ECC and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) player of the week honors.
 
Dowling also sports a 4-0 record, with all four wins coming in conference play. It won, 14-4, at C.W. Post on March 17. Michael Brennan and Billy Richardson each scored three goals in the victory.
 
Matt Hummel and Brady Heseltine lead Hurst with nine goals, while Brian Scheetz has dished out a team-high 10 assists. Dowling is led by Tom Cleary, who has scored 10 goals in 2012. Vito DeMola has recorded seven goals and four assists.
 
The winner will take control of the ECC and likely take the number one spot in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) poll. Last season, Mercyhurst won, 16-8, over Dowling at home. Scheetz had two goals and two assists.
 
Nationally, the Lakers lead Division II in scoring defense (4.25) and man-up offense (52 percent). Michael Grace paces the nation in goals against average (3.75) and save percentage (68 percent).
