ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst University men's tennis team continued to show signs of improvement, as they easily took a 7-2 victory over the winless Penn State Behrend Lions. The win improved the Lakers' record to 2-3, already doubling up on last year's win total.
Robert Rizea,
Jorn van der Veer,
Eric Drusko, and
Mario Sandoval each turned in stellar performances in their respective singles matches. Meanwhile,
Travis Beck continued to make a name for himself in his freshman year, prevailing in three sets over Taimi Ando in the No. 1 singles match.
Mike Vinopal nearly helped Mercyhurst sweep all singles matches, but lost in extra sets to Carson Emili. In doubles play, van der Veer and Beck turned in a nearly flawless performance, while Rizea and Drusko had to go the extra mile to pick up the win.
This concludes the tennis team's Fall schedule. They will return to action on February 23, as they begin a Spring road trip in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia against the Big Blue of Bluefield State College.
