ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The Mercyhurst men's water polo won its season-opener at the Navy Open Saturday, beating Fordham 8-5.
Kyle Scarry led the Lakers with three goals. Hurst followed by beating Lindenwood 13-3.
In the win over Fordham, the teams played a tight contest. The score was tied after one period before Hurst took a 3-2 halftime advantage. Both teams added two goals in the third frame. The Lakers pulled away in the fourth quarter, scoring three times to get the victory. Scarry posted a hat trick in his first game as a Laker, while
Brett Luehmann added two scores.
Adam Borgman,
Colin McDonald, and
James Owen each scored a goal apiece.
Matt Cote made ten saves in net for his first win of the season.
The Lakers open their home schedule next weekend with four games in three days. They host Gannon at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 9. Then Hurst faces Washington and Jefferson and Notre Dame College on September 10 before concluding with Penn State Behrend on the 11
th.
