HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Mercyhurst College men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Thursday, edging York College, 5-4, before falling to Christopher Newport, 8-1.

Against York, the Lakers swept all three doubles matches but found themselves in trouble in singles before freshman Eric Drusko bailed them out with a tight 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory for the deciding fifth point. 

Keith Whittingham and Jorn van der Veer provided the Lakers with their long point at No. 1 doubles against Christopher Newport, pulling off an exciting 9-8 (4) win.

The Lakers return to action on Friday in their final match of spring break against Marywood.
