ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College women's soccer team dropped its fourth game in a row after suffering a 3-1 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent, Bloomsburg University on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Lakers to 5-6-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the PSAC. The win improves the Huskies to 7-3-1 on the season while posting a 6-2-1 mark in PSAC play.
Bloomsburg's Jamie Vaniver erased a scoreless tie at the 37:57 minute of the contest. Vaniver rebounded a ball that hit the crossbar for the tally. Just two minutes later, freshman
Maire Dunning tucked her shot inside the right post beating the goalie for her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore
Gabrielle Catrabone was credited with the assist, her second of the year.
With only 90 seconds remaining, Katie Walczuk beat
Brooke Morrison with an unassisted netter.
The half ended with Bloomsburg edging the Lakers in shots, 6-5 and led the Lakers in corner kicks, 6-2.
The Huskies added an insurance goal at the 71:13 mark when Walczuk parked her second goal of the match. Tara Huber was credited with the assist.
All told, the Lakers took 13 shots compared to the Huskies 12 and Bloomsburg held the advantage in corners 11-3.
The Lakers are back in action on Friday, Oct.14, when they travel to West Chester, Pa. to take on the Golden Rams in PSAC play. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
