Women's Soccer Looks for Revenge Against Edinboro

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst College women's soccer team takes on its backyard rival, Edinboro University Saturday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. 

Mercyhurst holds a 9-1-2 advantage in the all-time series against Edinboro. The Lakers seek revenge against the Fighting Scots from the heartbreaking 2-0 loss that Edinboro posted during the 2009 season at Mercyhurst Soccer Field. 

As part of the Mercyhurst Homecoming weekend, these two teams feature local flavor, with six former Erie County High School students on their rosters. Mercyhurst is ranked No. 8 in the NSCAA Atlantic, two spots behind Edinboro, who is ranked No. 6. 

The Lakers are undefeated in four home matches this season. Paige McDowell leads the Mercyhurst offense with six goals on the season. The Fighting Scots come to Mercyhurst with a 1-0 record on the road, winning at Urbana by a 5-1 count. The Fighting Scots are led by Karisa Fernandez, who has six goals as well as two assists. The Lakers goalkeeper, Rachel Griepsma enters into this weekend's match with a record of 5-3-0, whereas Kate Stukbauer, the goaltender for the Fighting Scots, holds a season record of 5-1-1.
