No. 3 Lakers Breeze Past Chestnut Hill, 18-2

ERIE, Pa. – The third-ranked Mercyhurst College men's lacrosse team pushed its record to 8-0 thanks to an 18-2 victory over East Coast Conference opponent Chestnut Hill Saturday afternoon at Tullio Field.

Mercyhurst tied its longest winning streak to start a season and moved to 5-0 in conference play thanks to another dominating performance on both sides of the ball. 

The Laker offense, which scored at least 15 goals for the sixth time this season, saw 12 players find the back of the net, including reigning ECC Rookie of the Week Brian Scheetz, who led all players with two goals and two assists. 

Junior Trevor Rice and senior Charles Saylor scored three goals apiece, while junior Cameron Edmiston added a goal and helped out on two others. 

Junior Dana Moore reeled off two goals, and senior Kyle Plante, juniors Kevin Coholan and Andy Winslow, sophomore Gregory Bensman and freshmen Zac Reid, Mark Saltrelli and James Chayka each scored once. 

The Lakers broke open the game in the first half, scoring seven goals in the first quarter and three more in the second to take a 10-2 lead into break. Six more goals followed in the third before MC closed out the game with a pair in the fourth.

Mercyhurst outshot Chestnut Hill 49-15, held a 45-20 edge in ground balls and went 15-for-26 in faceoffs. In goal, junior Zach Nash moved to 7-0 on the season with four saves and one goal allowed in the first quarter. Junior Michael Jeschawitz recorded three saves and allowed one goal over a span of 23:43 before giving way to freshman Cameron Watts, who closed out the game with one stop.

Mercyhurst hits the road for its next game, taking on ECC foe Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday, Apr. 10 at 1 p.m. in Wheeling, W.Va.
