ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College wrestling team hosted Seton Hill University, East Stroudsburg University and Mercyhurst North East in the Mercyhurst Quad Meet held at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.  Freshman Shane Foster led the Lakers to a 2-1 record on the afternoon after going a perfect 3-0 on the day. 

Each team would play one another just once in a round robin style of play. The Warriors of East Stroudsburg held a perfect 3-0 record after the final match was wrestled, while the Lakers went 2-1 taking wins from Seton Hill and Mercyhurst North East. The Saints wrestled to a lone win against the Griffins of Seton Hill shutting them out of the win column.

Foster highlighted the Lakers, winning all three of his bouts. In his first two matches Foster managed pins. Foster pinned Nick Nichols of Seton Hill in 6:47, and made quick work of East Stroudsburg's Tyler Wilton when he pinned him in 1:06. With the three wins Foster now holds a 10-6 record on the season.

Jordan Shields picked up three wins as well, two of them coming because of forfeit. In the match Shields did wrestle he took on East Stroudsburg's Brock Parker. Parker currently sits ahead of Shields in the Super Region I rankings at No.4, Shields holds the five spot. Parker chose down in the second period, he then earned himself an escape point after he stood up and broke free of Shields grasp. During the third period Shields picked up two escape points to win the match in a 2-1 decision.

Three Lakers went 2-1 on the afternoon. That list includes Ryan Bohince, Austin Roland, and Patrick Leahy. 125 lb Bohince won in a major decision against the Saints Matt Yanovich 10-2, but lost to Kenny Trumbetta of Seton Hill, 3-0. The 165-pounder Roland came out of the gate strong as he wrestled to a 10-0 major decision in his first bout. Roland ended the day with a win as well with a 7-3 decision over Mercyhurst North East's James Bennett. The Lakers 174lb wrestler, Leahy earned himself a major decision during his first matchup of the day. He grappled to a 12-3 advantage over the Griffin's Josh Voelker. Leahy pinned his last competitor of the day at the 2:09 mark making it his first pin of the season.

Other Lakers that picked up wins during the quad match were Pat Carter, Eric Fulmer, Nathan Sharp and Michael Pollard. In the only match Carter wrestled he came away with a 9-2 decision over Marlon Baker of Mercyhurst North East.  Sharp, Fulmer and Pollard received their wins due to forfeit's, Fulmer now owns a 3-1 record while freshman teammate Pollard supports an 11-5 record. Sharp improves to 5-8 on the year.

The two wins the Lakers picked up today gives the team a dual meet record of 4-1, as they picked up wins against Waynesburg earlier in the week and Shippensburg on Dec. 11. Their only loss suffered to date was at the feet of PSAC foe East Stroudsburg. The Warriors improve to 4-5 on the season after sweeping the competition at the Mercyhurst Quad. 

The Lakers will have 21 days to rest up before entering the Wolfpack duals in Raleigh, N.C. While in the Capital city of North Carolina the Lakers will face off against North Carolina State, North Dakota State, Anderson University, and Campbell University. The times are respectively set for 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
