EUCLID, Ohio – The Mercyhurst College men's water polo team closed out the 2010 regular season with a win Saturday afternoon, defeating Notre Dame College, 14-10, at Mellen Pool in Euclid, Ohio.
With the victory, the Lakers finish the regular season 16-9 and will await word on where they will be seeded for the upcoming Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Championship Tournament, held Nov. 5-7 in Annapolis, Md.
Freshman
Danilo Svorcan helped the Lakers snap their three-game losing skid with five goals and an assist. Senior
Kane Ashton scored four goals and helped out on another, while junior
Josh Rodriguez netted two scores and three assists. Freshman
Brett Luehmann rounded out the offense with two goals and an assist.
Mercyhurst took care of business early on, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter. After a 2-1 edge in favor of Notre Dame College in the second, the Lakers came back in the third, reeling off five goals to take a 10-5 advantage into the fourth.
Senior
Andy Sekulski earned the win in goal with 12 saves, two assists and three steals.
