ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Mercyhurst College men's water polo team opened its 2009 campaign with a 12-4 victory over Queens (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon at the 2009 Navy Open.

Junior Alex Moggridge paced the offense with six goals while classmate Kane Ashton netted a hat trick as the Lakers marked their first opening day victory since the 2007 season. Freshman Colin Albue broke out in his rookie debut with four assists to lead all first-year scorers.

Junior Andy Sekulski held Queens to just four goals – two in each half – with 10 saves, including three stops on penalty shot attempts.

Mercyhurst continues its stay in Annapolis this evening with a 6 p.m. contest against George Washington.
