NORTH EAST, Pa. - The Mercyhurst College men's water polo team capped off a perfect weekend Sunday morning, as the Lakers defeated Collegiate Water Polo Association foe Washington & Jefferson by a score of 17-8 at the Mercyhurst Aquatic Center in North East, Pa.
With their fifth-straight win, the Lakers improve to 5-2 on the season and, more importantly, 3-0 in CWPA action.
After falling behind, 3-1, early in the first, Mercyhurst bounced back with an 8-1 scoring run through the second quarter. The Lakers' 9-4 lead expanded to 12-6 in the third before they outscored the Presidents 5-1 in the finale.
Six Lakers combined for 32 points of offense in the win. Junior
Alex Moggridge highlighted the group with four goals and three assists, followed by freshman
Ian Tasman with two scores and five assists and junior
Kane Ashton with three goals and three assists. Freshman
William Page marked three goals and two assists while producing seven steals.
Junior
Andy Sekulski improved his record to 5-2 with 13 saves. He also added three helpers and two steals.
The Lakers and Presidents will meet again this weekend for a second CWPA game on Saturday, Sept. 26 in Washington, Pa.
