ERIE, Pa. – Junior #Alex Moggridge# scored two goals, including the game-winner, and classmate #Andy Sekulski# recorded a career-high 25 saves, as the Mercyhurst College men's water polo team downed Gannon, 17-16, in sudden-victory overtime Saturday evening at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The Lakers, winners of four straight, improve to 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. Gannon, meanwhile, falls to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in conference action.

Mercyhurst built itself a 10-6 lead through the first two quarters of play before Gannon ignited with an 8-4 scoring run in the second half to tie game at 14-14 and force overtime. After a pair of goals in the first extra-time session, Moggridge sealed the Lakers second-straight win over the Golden Knights this season when he beat Neal Zoellick just 13 seconds in.

The Lakers saw five players achieve multi-goal performances. Freshman #Luis Solis# led the team with five goals, including the game-tying score with 23 seconds left in the first overtime. Junior #Kane Ashton# reeled off four, followed by freshman #William Page# with three and first-year driver #Adam Borgman# with two. In addition to their scores, Moggridge also added a team-high five steals while Page recorded three assists and six drawn ejections.

Mercyhurst returns to conference play on Sunday, Sept. 20, when the Lakers host Washington & Jefferson at the Mercyhurst Aquatic Center in North East, Pa.
