Men's Water Polo Erik Kaminski, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

Lakers Outscore Queens, 23-18, in OT

ERIE, Pa. – Freshman William Page scored a career-high seven goals to lead the Mercyhurst College men's water polo team to a 23-18 victory over Queens (N.Y.) in the opening game of 2009 Division II Eastern Championships on Saturday morning in Erie, Pa.

With the victory, the Lakers improve to 2-2 and stand at 1-0 heading into their match-up with Gannon later this afternoon.

Along with Page, three other players put on multi-goal performances. Juniors Kane Ashton and Alex Moggridge combined for nine scores. Ashton registered five goals while Moggridge netted four, including two in the final minute of regulation to tie the game at 18-18 and force extra time. First-year driver Adam Borgman matched Moggridge's output with four goals.

Junior Andy Sekulski recorded 13 saves to improve to 2-2 on the season.

The Lakers return to action this afternoon when they face cross-town rival Gannon at 4 p.m. in hopes of claiming their third-straight Eastern Championship title.
