Men's Golf Completes CMU Invitational

Derek Fisher shot 73 to lead Mercyhurst Thursday.
Verona, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's golf team took fifth place at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational, held Thursday at Longue View Country Club. The Lakers posted a one-round tournament score of 332, led by #Derek Fisher,# who shot a three-over-par 73 to finish tied for fourth in the field.

Fisher shot a 37 on the front nine and came back with a 36 for his score of 73. Teammate Tyler Bidwell shot 39 on each half for a total of 78 strokes, good for 10th place out of 38 competitors. Ben Deets shot an 89 on the day, including 40 strokes on the back nine, and finished in 31st place. Patrick Jackson rounded out the team scoring with a round of 92, finishing in 33rd place. Garrett Kimple also competed for the Lakers, shooting a 93. 

Carnegie Mellon claimed its championship with 294 strokes, led by individual champion Alex Timmons, who fired an even-par 70. CMU was followed by Saint Vincent with 312 strokes, Cal (Pa.) with 314, and Westminster with 322. The Lakers finished in fifth with 332, followed by La Roche, who scored 361 for sixth place. 

Mercyhurst next competes at the Indiana (Pa.) invitational, to be held Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 14.
