UBRANA, MD – The Mercyhurst men's golf team opened their spring season at the Carpetbagger Classic host by Binghamton. Three Lakers posted top 30 finishes at Worthington Manor Golf Club as the team finished ninth in the 14 team field.

Darien Swanson and
Peter Malo Jr. each posted matching 74s in both rounds to finish tied for 26 in the 96 player field.

Swanson finished his first round with back-to-back birdies to card a 2-over 74. In the second round, the senior was consistent, posting 12 pars and two birdies.

Malo Jr. was 1-under through 12 holes in the first round, but a double and a bogey in the final six holes saw him finish with a 74. He posted the same score in round two, carding two birdies and four bogeys on the round.

Matthew Spadacini used a strong final round to jump into the top 30. Spadacini fired a 1-under 71. He started the round 2-over through three holes, but an eagle on the par 5 ninth hole put him back to even par. The senior got it to 2-under through 10 holes, but three bogeys and two birdies through the last seven holes saw him finish with a 1-under 71 to go along with his first round 78.

Evan Rowane recorded a 75 in round one and a 77 in round two to finish 52
nd.

Freshman
Barrett Paolini also competed for the Lakers improving his opening round 81 by four shots to post a 77 in round two.
As a team the Lakers improved in the second round, shooting 296. They opened the spring slate with a 301 score on the first 18.Â

The Lakers are back in action April 6 at the NKU Jewell Invitational. Â
