Lakers Claim Second Consecutive Title at Gannon Invitational

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's golf  team defeated Gannon by 12 shots to clinch its second straight title at the Gannon Invitational, held Thursday, April 30 at Lake Shore Country Club. Junior Tyler Bidwell claimed medalist honors at the tournament.

The Lakers registered a team score of 306 over the 18-hole tournament, beating host institution Gannon University by 12 strokes in the process. Mercyhurst also won the Gannon Invitational Oct. 13, 2008.

Tyler Bidwell carded a one-under par 71 to earn medalist honors. He shot 37 on the front nine and 34 on the back nine to win the tournament, his second individual tournament win this spring and fourth in the 2008-09 season. Matt Mahoney posted a round of 75 to finish third out of 12 competitors, tying his best score this spring. Derek Fisher shot a 77and took fifth place. Ben Deets finished in seventh position after totaling 83 strokes. Garrett Kimple tied for ninth place with a score of 86.

Mercyhurst has concluded its team schedule for the 2008-09 season. Bidwell will be competing at the 2009 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional tournament, held May 4-6 in Daniels, W. Va.
